Early red and eleven awarded! Broke for Wacker in Mattersburg

Ex-Wacker kicker Rene Renner scored both goals in the 2:1 victory of the Burgenland team over the Innsbruck team.

Mattersburg – FC Wacker Innsbruck are next to go bankrupt. The Tyroleans had to admit defeat 1:2 at SV Mattersburg. Ex-Wacker kicker Rene Renner, of all players, scored two goals (49th, 80th) to become the match winner for the Burgenland team. Ilkay Durmus scored a penalty and equalised the score for the visitors who had been outnumbered for a long time (52nd). For the eleven of coach Karl Daxbacher it is already the seventh defeat of the season.

Both teams had been in action in the Cup on Wednesday. While Mattersburg lost to Rapid after 120 minutes and penalty shootouts, Wacker Innsbruck in Neusiedl won 3:1 in the regular season. However, the Tyroleans experienced a horror start. Stefan Meusburger misjudged and was then forced by the breaking Martin Pusic to an emergency brake. After his foul after 56 seconds the working day of the central defender was over. At Jano’s due free kick from 17 meters the left outer pole (3.) saved.

Innsbruck continued to use a four-man defensive chain, with Roman Kerschbaum switching from midfield to the back, and after five minutes he had his first chance: Patrick Eler pulled out of a half-left position after a quick counter-attack, Mattersburg goalie Markus Kuster had to stretch himself.

Mattersburg then pushed the visitors into his own half, but was wasteful with his chances. Neo striker Pusic was a constant trouble spot, but either headed over the bar (8th) or shot Wacker-Goalie Knett after Julius Ertlthaler’s Stangl pass from close range (23rd). The goalkeeper from Innsbruck also successfully fought against Andreas Gruber’s subsequent shot. Four minutes later Ertlthaler hesitated too long (28th) into the back area after Gruber’s custom shot.

Eler fogging penalty kick

In the 30th minute the cold shower was ready for the superior Schmidt-Elf: But Eler shot a penalty far over the goal. Alois Höller had previously blocked a violent shot from Daniele Gabriele with his arm (29th). Immediately, Knett successfully shortened the angle against Gruber (46.). After the change of sides, the focus was on Renner. The 24-year-old midfielder scored the 1:0 (49th) after Gruber’s tail flank, and two minutes later he was responsible for another penalty on the other side. Referee Dieter Muckenhammer had after Cheikhou Diengs shot again a punishable handball constituted. Durmus converted the penalty shot with stomach ache to 1:1 (52.). Kuster was still on the ball at the central shot of the Bundesliga premiere goalkeeper, but the ball found its way into the goal via the inner rod.

The hosts were also the more active and much more dangerous team. Knett defused a large number of Mattersburg’s big chances before he – decisively – misjudged himself: A corner kicked by Renner with a lot of cut sank over the Tyrolean goalie to the 2-1 goal (80th). Albert Vallci missed the Innsbruck opportunity for the Lucky Punch in injury time.
